Supporting families in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

New parents with babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) receive a pack from the charity. They get a tote bag to carry important medical information, a cool bag for storing breast milk, a thermos mug so they can take a drink onto the unit when they are with their baby, and a pen to take down essential care notes.

The charity is also able to fund the Family Care Nurse role thanks to your ongoing support, who offers support for parents of babies on NICU. The Nurse helps parents to understand the medical problems that baby has, the treatments they are receiving, and can connect parents to other sources of support. The Nurse also arranges accommodation for parents.

“Being the Family Care Nurse means I get to support families on the unit and improve their experiences whilst their baby is being cared for by the other nurses. I can have the time to support with the 'little' extras that make a hard and scary time, a little bit easier for them.

I love that I can implement new initiatives for families to make memories whilst they are here. Being on the unit, I regularly see the impact the charity has on families. The refreshments provided benefit over 100 families a month and they are always so grateful.”
