Creating space to pause and recharge for our NHS staff

We believe it is just as important to make sure NHS staff have the support they need to continue providing the best possible care for patients when it matters most.

Thanks to our wonderful supporters, we’re able to fund projects that make a real difference to the wellbeing of NHS staff, from creating spaces to switch off and recharge, to helping teams feel supported through the challenges of their working day.

One great example is a new breakout space at the Sheffield Health Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust base in Upperthorpe, created for colleagues working in the Long-Term Neurological Conditions (LTNC) teams.

Staff in these teams work in a complex and often emotionally demanding environment. They told us that having somewhere calm and private to take a break, reflect after a challenging session or simply enjoy a quiet cuppa would make a real difference to their wellbeing.

So, we were delighted to be able to help make that happen.

The space gives colleagues somewhere to step away from the demands of their working day, take a break and spend some time looking after themselves and each other.

While it may seem like a simple thing, having the opportunity to pause and recharge can make a huge difference. When staff feel rested, supported and valued, they’re better placed to provide the compassionate, high-quality care that service users rely on.

Sheffield Health Partnership Chair, Sharon Mays, said:

“It’s been wonderful to see everyone come together to create a space for staff to step away from their work and relax and get refreshments. A huge thank you to all those involved, our service users, the Sheffield Hospitals Charity and our staff for creating this wonderful space. What you’ve achieved together is fantastic, and you should be incredibly proud. Very well done to you all.”

We’re so proud to have supported this project and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who help make projects like this possible.

Because when you support Sheffield Hospitals Charity, you’re not just helping us improve care for patients and service users. You’re helping us take care of the incredible NHS staff who care for them too.
