Event
What time does the event start?
Registration is open from 9am, this is where you will sign-in and collect your t-shirt. A warmup will take place from 9.30am, with the walk starting at 10am.
What time does the event finish?
The walk starts at 10am and is approximately 2km in distance, we anticipate this will take attendees between 20 minutes - 45 minutes to complete depending on their walking speed.
Once you have completed the walk, please re-enter the Summer Beach Club to complete your walk and collect your certificate! You can then enjoy exclusive access to the Summer Beach Club, and free entry onto the rides until they open to the general public.
Don’t forget to go into the Meadowhall Shopping Centre afterwards to make use of the discounts available on the day (participating stores only, you must be wearing your Red Shoe Walk t-shirt to qualify for the discounts).
How do I sign up?
To sign up to the Red Shoe Walk, click here.
When is the deadline for signing up?
Please sign up by midnight on Tuesday 28th July
Can I sign up on the day?
Unfortunately, we are unable to allow signups on the day. This is because we want to make sure everyone who takes part has enough time to fundraise before the event, and so we can make sure you get your event t-shirt. This also ensures the safety of everyone taking part.
Are there any restrictions?
The Red Shoe Walk has no age restrictions, however everyone, including children, must register to take part in the event. All participants aged 0 to 15 (inclusive) must be registered by a parent or guardian and accompanied by an adult on event day.
I don't have red shoes! Can I still take part?
Absolutely! Red shoes are not compulsory, so please don’t worry if you don’t have a pair. Everyone who takes part will receive an official Red Shoe Walk red t-shirt to wear on the day. If you’d like to add extra red accessories to your outfit, you’re very welcome to - but it’s completely optional. We just want you to come along, have fun, and be part of the event!
When will I get my t-shirt?
Your t-shirt will be available to collect from the registration desks when you sign in on the morning of the Red Shoe Walk event. Remember, you can sign in between 9am-9.30am, ready for our warmup to start at 9.30am
How fit do I need to be to take part?
The Red Shoe Walk is approximately 2km in distance and follows the canal path around the outskirts of Meadowhall Shopping Centre and then enters the shopping centre itself. The route is considered ‘easy’ and is flat and accessible. As a participant, you are responsible for ensuring that you, your child/children and anyone else on your booking are sufficiently fit and healthy to take part in the event. Any participant unsure of their physical ability to take part in the event must seek medical advice from their GP prior to the event.
Is it a race?
No. The Red Shoe Walk is a non-competitive walking event and running is not permitted.
What if the event can’t go ahead?
The Red Shoe Walk will only be cancelled or postponed in the event of extreme weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances. In this event, we would look to transfer your place to a new date for the event.
Can I bring my dog?
Unfortunately, dogs are not permitted on the Red Shoe Walk due to a portion of the walk taking place inside Meadowhall Shopping Centre, and the Summer Beach Club not being dog-friendly (only registered support dogs will be allowed into the shopping centre and summer beach club).
I can no longer take part, can I have a refund or transfer my place?
We completely understand that plans change. Please get in touch to let us know and we can remove your fundraising page from the campaign. Unfortunately, all registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Do you need volunteers? If so, how do I register?
Yes! We need volunteers in a variety of roles to help make the event run smoothly. To register as a volunteer, please contact the Sheffield Hospitals Charity office on charity@shct.nhs.uk or 0114 700 4430.
Are there any toilets during the event?
The event village is located in the Summer Beach Club, which has its own toilets. There are also opportunities to use the toilets in Meadowhall centre along the walk– our friendly Marshals will be able to direct you.
Can I bring spectators?
Unfortunately, only people with tickets will be able to enter the event village and participate in the walk. Anyone wanting to come to the event village only will still need to purchase a ticket.
Will I get a physical ticket?
Your confirmation email will need to be shown as your ticket to register for the event on the day – either by printing the email or showing this on your phone.
Fundraising
How much do I need to fundraise?
We ask everyone who takes part in the Red Shoe Walk aims to raise a minimum of £50, but there’s nothing to stop you raising more than that!
Whilst we don’t require your fundraising target to be met to take part in the Red Shoe Walk, we hope you will join us in raising as much as possible for dementia care initiatives across Sheffield.
How do I fundraise?
Once registered, you will be automatically redirected to Just Giving where we have put together a handy template for a fundraising page. You can personalise this page, then just click ‘publish’!
Once published, you can share this far and wide with friends, family and colleagues, encouraging them all to contribute towards your walk and donate to a worthwhile cause.
If it's your first time fundraising, asking for donations can be daunting. But don't be scared - friends and family want to support you! Just explain what you're doing and why you're doing it, then ask. If you don't get any donations the first time, you can always ask again later.
You’ll receive further information and tips from our dedicated fundraising team to help you along the way.
If you would prefer a sponsor form to collect cash, or a collection tin to display in a shop or at an event for example, please contact us on charity@shct.nhs.uk or call 0114 700 4430.
What if I receive cash donations?
Not to worry! You can add cash donations to your Just Giving page by following the instructions on this web page.
You will then need to drop the cash off with us at Sheffield Hospitals Charity. To arrange to drop off your cash donations, email charity@shct.nhs.uk. If you think you will be unable to drop off your cash donations, please call us on 0114 700 4430.
What happens to the money I raise?
By raising money through our Red Shoe Walk, you’ll be helping the NHS in Sheffield to provide the best possible care, at the right time, for people living with dementia, their carers and loved ones – both in and out of hospital.

Can I raise money for a different fund/area?
We have promised that the funds raised from the Red Shoe Walk event will be used for dementia projects across Sheffield and so we’d love it if you could help us to do that. If you are passionate about supporting Sheffield Hospitals Charity in a different way, please call us on 0114 700 4430 and one of our team will be happy to speak to you about the options.
