Thank You Sheffield!
Our largest ever donation of £1.45m has funded a surgical robot for cancer patients.
Your support has brought a game changer to the Northern General.
The robot will make a huge difference to hundreds of cancer patients from Sheffield and beyond.
The brand-new surgical system (called ‘da Vinci Xi’) will be used by surgeons at the Northern General, allowing them to operate more precisely on a wide range of cancers. These include lung, oesophageal, stomach, bowel, liver, pancreas and kidney.
The technology lets surgeons work in hard-to-reach areas using robotic arms with flexible, fully rotating wrist and a high-definition 3D view. This allows them to see up to ten times more than the naked eye and enlarges something the size of a 2p coin to the size of a dinner plate.
The new equipment will act as a sibling to the surgical robot that’s already in place at the Royal Hallamshire, thanks to an incredible gift in 2019 from local businessman Dave Allen.
Your support is helping bring the very latest technology into Sheffield’s NHS, giving patients and their families access to better treatment, faster recovery, and more hope for the future.
From all of us at SHC and from the patients whose lives will be changed, thank you.
