Sheffield Hospitals Charity’s 2025 Golf Day drives change for Neurology and Neurosciences in Sheffield

We’re so proud to announce that our annual Golf Day, sponsored by Clear Insurance Management (formerly IFM Insurance) raised over £20,000 for neurology and neuroscience projects across Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.
35 teams joined us at the prestigious Hallamshire Golf Club on Friday 6th of June. A gallery of photos can be found at the bottom of this page, where it’s easy to see what a great day the teams had – and a sprinkling of rain in the morning certainly didn’t stop play!
Kevin Bingham, who played as part of the winning team alongside his son Mark Bingham from MB’s Window Cleaning (who also kindly sponsored a hole on the course), said:
“As a family we support Sheffield Hospitals Charity, which is now home to Neurocare, since my son Mark's wife Fiona was diagnosed with a brain tumour. The Hallamshire hospital gave her such amazing care pre and post-surgery on the ward in there. We will continue to support the charity even after losing Fiona, as they need our help to keep making a difference.” - Kevin Bingham

Amongst the teams were Skratch Design captained by Alistair Farrant. Alistair has a personal connection to the charity following a life-threatening brain tumour diagnosis five years ago. This came as a complete shock to him and his family after a visit to the GP following some unusual sensations with his vision and hearing. He was referred for an MRI scan and the same afternoon was rushed to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital for urgent surgery.
"I am eternally grateful to the whole team who treated and cared for me at The Royal Hallamshire Hospital; their skills are world-class. I had entered a team in the Sheffield Hospitals Charity Golf Day every year anyway, but this day feels extra special now since the NHS team saved my life. It may have been five years since, but I’m still grateful every day for the support of the incredible team of specialists here in Sheffield." - Alistair Farrant

The money raised through the annual golf day enables Sheffield Hospitals Charity to fund impactful neurology projects across Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.
One such project that will make a real difference to neurology patients is a rehabilitation garden currently under construction at Osborn 4 at the Northern General. The garden, set to complete this summer, will enhance recovery for patients with serious neurological conditions such as traumatic brain injuries, strokes, multiple sclerosis, and brain tumours.
Some patients stay on the ward for months on end as they rebuild their lives. Until now, rehabilitation has taken place indoors, limited to clinical gym spaces and corridors. This new garden will offer a transformative alternative - a safe, stimulating, and restorative outdoor space. It includes specialist walkways to support mobility, raised planters for therapeutic gardening, a soft games area for social engagement, and quiet corners for reflection and rest.
As explained in the above video, this space comes after the updating of the beautiful courtyard space which Sheffield Hospitals Charity funded in 2017. The charity is also able to gift the use of the Long-Term Neurological Conditions Building, home of the Sheffield Community Brain Injury Rehabilitation team, thanks to our supporters. This is a specialist team within SHSC, working with people in Sheffield who have had a traumatic or acquired brain injury. They ensure that carers, family and loved ones have all the support they need to achieve a quality of life that is satisfying and meaningful to them.
As well as thanking all of the teams who came together to play for a great cause, we’d also like to thank all our sponsors and those who supported Sheffield Hospitals Charity to host the day – we couldn’t have done it without:
