Ex Rotherham United player takes on 200 miles for Sheffield’s NHS
Vance Warner, who played for both Rotherham United and Nottingham Forest Football Club has taken on a challenge to complete 200 miles (100 miles running, 100 miles walking) to raise funds for Sheffield Hospitals Charity.
Vance is a big supporter of the NHS. When he was a teenager, he was rushed to hospital after contracting meningitis and was in a coma for several days. He counts himself lucky to be alive.
Vance went on to play in league and cup competitions with Rotherham United and Nottingham Forest and is now a grassroots football referee for the Sheffield & Hallamshire County Football Association.
Vance explained, “I usually only do one charity fundraising effort a year which I’d already done for 2024 but then saw Sheffield Hospitals Charity launch their 62-mile challenge for October on Facebook and I knew it was the perfect chance for me to give back to Sheffield’s NHS.
Me being me, I’ve pushed this challenge even further and I’m doing 200 miles!
My father-in-law tragically passed away from cancer. He was looked after by the incredible staff at Weston Park, they took such good care of him, my wife, my mother-in-law, all of us. He had the absolute best care possible during that time. This challenge is a way of me saying thank you for everything the NHS does.”
