At Sheffield Hospitals Charity, we’re always incredibly touched when people choose to support us in memory of someone they love.
Sisters Martha and Hepsie recently shared their story with us as they remember their late mum, Penelope, and the care she received from NHS staff in Sheffield. During what was an incredibly difficult time for the family, the kindness and compassion shown to both Penelope and her loved ones made a lasting difference.
“Sheffield Hospitals were there for our mum and for us, as we navigated the heartbreak of her stroke, and later her dementia. Being able to give back in her memory feels like a small but important way to say thank you.”

The sisters chose to support us through their Gift Wrap That Gives campaign in 2024 and 2025. They dedicate 10% of all profits from the sales of Martha and Hepsie gift wrap on both their website and Etsy store to a charity they choose each year.
“Our Gift Wrap That Gives donations are always chosen with care to ensure they mean something to us, and supporting Sheffield Hospitals Charity was especially meaningful. Being able to give back in her memory feels like a small, but important way to say thank you. It keeps Mum’s memory alive.”
Hearing this means so much to us, because our work is only possible thanks to people who want to give something back to the NHS teams who cared for them and their families.
With Mother’s Day approaching this Sunday, Martha and Hepsie hope their tribute will not only honour their mum but also help support other patients and families cared for by Sheffield’s NHS.
We’re so grateful to them for sharing their story and helping keep Penelope’s memory alive while supporting our hospitals.
